IPad shutting down on own and hot to the touch

My iPad Air is about two years old. It keeps shutting down on its own and when charging sometimes feels hot to the touch. My concern is if I take it into an Apple Store they are just going to tell me to leave it with them to take a look at which is not ampm option. Are there any other suggestions?

I have done a reboot several times and cleaned out cache.

If you are concerned in any way for the health of your iPad, your best (if not only) realistic option is to entrust inspection and test of your iPad to those best qualified - and in possession of the correct tools. This will be the manufacturer, Apple.

You are best advised to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support - and request a remote diagnostic test.

You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively and perhaps easier, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed on your iPad, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad.
