Safari TAB GROUPS not synching

I’ve been using safari tab groups for a while. I just bought a new iPad Pro (running 16.3.1) and added it to my iCloud account. While individual tabs sync, the tab GROUPS do not. Moreover, they have disappeared from my old iMac but still appear on my iPhone and MacBook Pro. All software is up to date and all are logged into the same iCloud account. I’ve done the restarts and toggled on and off the sync safari with iCloud to no avail. Any suggestions?

Thanks. I followed your very clear instructions. Unfortunately, the basic problem remains. Old tab groups do not synch. Interestingly, if I create a new tab group and manually enter a web address, the group and tab sync. It looks like I'll have to manually recreate my tab groups and hope future updates sync. Thanks again for your help.

If you are having difficulties with synchronisation of Tab Groups and/or iCloud Tabs, try deleting the associated data from Safari’s Advanced settings - then force restart the iPad:

Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data - using search, locate and delete cookie: cdn-apple.com

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

It’s good to learn that you have a workaround that resolves the problem in your particular situation.

Perhaps of note for others who may encounter your post while looking to resolve a similar issue, Apple has changed the manner that Safari data is synchronised between devices for the most recent versions of iOS/iPadOS. As with many features that utilise iCloud to sync’ data, unless major versions are the same across all devices, some data may fail to synchronise as anticipated between devices.
