screenshots not saving

hi please help me. i got my ipad for my bday a few months ago, so it is kinda new. when i take screenshots, it isn’t saving. it isn’t going into my gallery, nothing. i checked icloud photos, still no work. this happened when i updated to ios 16. i’ve seen all other people asking for help on this. nothing seems to be solved. please. help. when i screenshot, i still see it wt the bottom of the screen. when i click it and try to share it through the thingy, it says “Preparing..” and it has a clock that’s not close to finishing.

We take screenshots all the time, and we'd like to help get your own working as expected on your iPad. Let's begin with ruling out some possible causes, along with confirming more details to better understand what's happening:

You mentioned that it shows 'Preparing...' when trying to share a screenshot you take, but with which app are you trying to share it?
When did this start?
If you tap on the 'Done' option near the top left of the screenshot menu, then select 'Save to Photos', what exactly occurs?
Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPad
If you have a compatible iPad model, the latest version is iPadOS 16.3.1. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.
