Messages search by date

Messages search by date: Once it was possible, then impossible, a few years later spotlight was added, but now (16.3.1) those adjustments in settings disappeared and again made it impossible. You would think feature-obsessed Apple would restore actual useful features like this, but heavens no.

What am I missing?

Search Messages by Date Is there a way to search messages by date? I found an earlier post saying you could do this on a Mac by typing "kind:message created:" with the date in Spotlight. However, this only works for me for the last three days. I am trying to find texts from 2022, and nothing shows up when I enter those dates or anything prior to a few days ago. Does the Spotlight search only work for very recent texts, or is there something I need to do to fix that? If not, is there any other way for me to find texts from a specific date in 2022 without scrolling back through individual conversations?

Is there a way to search iMessages by date or date range? It's a real drag to scroll up through thousands of messages to try and find a message from a year ago. This posting from 2020 indicated it was possible to use Spotlight to search messages by date or date range. However, this no longer seems to work in Spotlight (see screenshot). Is there a way to do this in 2023?

I don’t ever recall that the Messages app on the iPad had the search by date feature. That doesn’t mean that it was never there. It just means that I do not remember ever having it.
