Mac mini OS 13.2.1, Font Book does not reinstall missing font

I have been using two 3rd party fonts for several months on my Mac mini. During a routine upgrade, the fonts disappeared from Font Book. I re-downloaded the identical files from the original sources, but when I tried to reinstall each I received a pop-up message stating that Font Book had failed to install the font and that the usual cause was a lack of information in the file. In addition, I have had the same failure to install two other fonts I wanted to use for a presentation. I have followed suggestions made to others about different means to copy the font files into Font Book to no avail. I have restarted the Mac twice. I am at a loss, I am quite fond of the fonts. It occurred to me that I might reinstall Font Book, but I haven't found a source for a new copy.

I wanted to follow up with what turned out to be the core problem and the "solution" that had nothing to do with what I thought was the problem.

When I moved onto my new Mac mini from my old Windows laptop, I performed a typical "Import" of the data that accompanies such a move. Unknown to me, and I didn't think to check, something in the process created two identities with the same login name (my first and last) but with slightly different account names. The problem arose when I downloaded the font files in question to one account, then inadvertently logged into the other account (my login is set up to present only the login name without showing the existence of two accounts). One account had the fonts installed, the second had no fonts in it's data, and I was unable to install from the account that had the fonts installed to the other account because the first account didn't have permission to write to the second.

As I was trying to set permissions (in the Information pane), I suddenly realized that there were two accounts. From there it was simply a matter of making sure I had all of my files/data in the account that also had the fonts (which, fortunately, was the account I almost always logged in to), I then deleted the duplicate account, and everything works as it should.

Just thought you might like a little chuckle at my expense. I've been using windows computers since 1983 and the days of ms dos, but Macs for only a few years and much more casually. Persistence is what what solved my problem, a word to the wise should be sufficient.

dialabrain abd Tom Gewecke: I tried drag/dropping the fonts directly into library/fonts. I got the circle with diagonal line "prohibited" symbol. I tried transferring via an intermediate folder (I'm not sure why except I thought the permissions might work that way). I tried setting permissions to "Read & Write," I wasn't able to access "Wheel" permissions and don't know if that matters. No success so far. I'm afraid I have a lot better understanding of windows than of iOS. Nothing I have read helps me with this issue.

When I opened font book this afternoon prior to following up on your suggestion, the missing fonts were in place, as if they had never been missing. Now, I no longer have the problem, but I also don't have an avenue to discover my problem. I appreciate your help, and I plan to do a little more exploration of the file structure of my Mac mini so I better understand communications if I have to visit the Apple community in the future.

Thank you very. very much for your assistance,

Truly,

Dale
