Annoying automatic volume setting when connected with a bluetooth headphone

After I upgraded to iOS 16.3.1 and every time I connect my BOSE QC45 to the iphone 12, the volume is automatically set up to about 50% of the maximum, no matter how low or high the volume is the last time I disconnect it. I never had this problem when my phone was at iOS 14 (never tried iOS 15). There were no shortcuts that were created for volume control in my phone. I started using iOS 16.3.1 and watch S8 at the same time. I am not very sure which factor caused this problem. Are there any solutions for this problem? Thanks.

iPhone 12, iOS 16

Hi chenqiang22,

Thank you for replying with more information.

To continue, please be sure that this device is classified as headphones in the Bluetooth settings of your iPhone. You may also want to check that the "Reduce Loud Sounds" feature is set as you would expect.

Click here to find more information about changing these two features: Use headphone audio level features on iPhone.

Cheers!

Hey chenqiang22,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. If you haven't already, check with Bose Support to see if there's an available firmware update for your headphones, especially since updating your iPhone. Here's a link to their support, just in case: Bose Product Support

In addition to checking for the firmware update, you could see if fresh connections help to resolve this by unpairing your headphones and setting them up again. Here's a great guide with both steps: Set up and use Bluetooth accessories on iPhone - Apple Support

"Unpair a Bluetooth device

Go to Settings  > Bluetooth, tap the information button  next to the name of the device, then tap Forget This Device.

If you don’t see the Devices list, make sure Bluetooth is turned on.

If you have AirPods and you tap Forget This Device, they’re automatically removed from other devices where you’re signed in with the same Apple ID."

To set them up again, follow the steps under "Pair a Bluetooth headphone, car kit, game controller, or other device" in that same guide.

Let us know how it goes.

Take care!

Hi TammyW_03,

Many thanks for your response. There was not firmware updates from Bose. And I tried upairing and repaired it, but it did not help. Every time I connected the headphone with my phone, the volume bar automatically appeared at the left side of screen and was set to around 50%, which looked like it was controlled by a shortcut. But I checked there was no such a shortcut for adjusting volume.

Thanks.
