Classroom iPads changing language settings on their own

I work for a school district and at one of the schools, ipads in a specific classroom change language settings by themselves for some strange reason. It seems that when one student starts using her ipad, the language changes to Chinese or other language and then begins spreading to other ipads in the classroom.

It only seems to happen in that one classroom. As we have had the student try using her ipad in other locations in the school and nothing changes. It also only seems to happen when the student uses the ipad. We were troubleshooting and using the ipad and apps where it happens for a good hour. Nothing happened until we handed the ipad back to the student. It changed again shortly afterward. Though it did happen to other students when we took the ipad out of the room to wipe it.

We are not sure what could be causing this as it is only happening in one particular classroom. Ipads are connected to wifi via an AP in the classroom. Each classroom has one.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? Thanks.

Hi, that's what I consider.

Since it only seems to happen when that you are using the iPad => perhaps there is something unique about the way that you interact with the device that triggers the language change.

Since it didn't change language in other locations and wiping it didn't fix the issue => it seems likely that something specific to that classroom is causing the problem.

So have you tried changing the Wi-Fi network that the iPads are connected to in that classroom?

Maybe there is some sort of interference or glitch with that particular access point. It might also be worth checking if there are any apps or software installed on those iPads that could be causing the issue.

Also, have you consulted with anyone else in the school district to try to solve this issue? Mb someone had a similar problem...

If you’re getting messages on google classroom from “the teacher” you need to reset every ipad in the room because you’re either being hacked or one of the students is messing around with things. If there aren’t any suspicious attempts the possible hacker could have hidden the log in because that is super weird. Because if those messages are showing up that is creepy and if the iPad is playing weird videos you might ask all of the students and teachers involved in this if they connected any chargers that weren’t theirs or adapters to their devices because that could mean that one person got hacked and spread it through to the people nearby. My recommendation would be to factory reset every iPad experiencing this problem and report the problem directly to Apple support. (It’s faster to call on phone from my experience)

Hey there! I hope you have tried changing the Wi-Fi network yet since it's definitely worth a shot to see if that's causing the problem. I also checked the installed apps and software on the iPad, but I didn't find anything that could be causing the issue. I may have missed something, so I'll take another look. As for studying online, I find it to be a great alternative like https://papersowl.com/write-my-thesis which enables me to get help from experts who can offer valuable knowledge and write my thesis. It is instead of traditional classroom learning, especially with all the technological advancements we have nowadays. However, it can be a bit challenging at times, especially when it comes to staying focused and motivated and finding by ourselves some sources, but I've already given you one)) Have you tried studying online before? What are your tips for staying focused and motivated? Share them with me since that is the way students can support each other.

We do when it happens so there is only english listed and then the ipad turns back to english. But it can happen again and the language changes again and there are other languages listed again.

I know this is quite late but maybe have every student and teacher in the school go to preferred language and make sure that it only has English that might fix the problem.

Yes, it's the user interface. All text is in Chinese or whatever language it changes to. And I made a mistake in my initial post. It did happen to the one student when she was in another room. Unable to do a screenshot at the moment because I had to go to another location.

We think it may be related to the Apple Classroom that the class uses. We wiped the teacher's ipad and then swapped the student's 6th gen iPad for a 7th gen ipad.

Sorry for not replying for so long. I have 7 schools I support so I get busy sometimes. Yes, we have tried changing networks and it still happened. We had wiped the teacher's ipad because we suspected the Apple classroom was somehow causing it. That seemed to take care of the issue until today when it started happening again. It wasn't any particular app or action either. It happened to one student when he tapped on an assignment in Google classroom and another student just had it happen when they opened safari.

It's very strange.

Unfortunately, we are out for spring break now so I can't do a screen shot. It has happened to several different ipads. In preferred language there are usually one or several other languages along with english. But language is one of the other languages. Like all the words under the icons and in system settings are in chinese characters or whatever language it switched to.

Well, it only seems to be happening on the ipads in one particular classroom. And this past Friday, the issue sort of escalated. While we were there to further troubleshoot the issue, weird announcement messages supposedly from the teacher started showing in the google classroom. They said things like sos and get safe, and Dead and Bye. Then one students ipad started playing weird videos on youtube.

We've investigated, and there was no evidence of strange or unknown devices connecting to the AP or logging onto the teacher's google account. And so far, I've been research but can't find any known ipad hacks that would cause this.
