Keyboard switches the language of certain apps

Hi, my default keyboard language on my phone is Hungarian, but about half a year ago I added a second keyboard, which was Simplified Chinese, because I needed it for my studies.

However, this setting has changed the language of certain apps (eg. Shazam) to Chinese (but not all the apps). At first, it didn’t bother me because I didn’t use these apps very often or I already knew how to use them, but now I downloaded a new app and that is also in Chinese, which is very annoying, because I don’t speak Chinese that well (yet).

If I delete the Chinese keyboard, every app switches back to its own default language immediately, but if I add it again, everything goes back to Chinese (and there are usually no language settings in these apps, or they are already set to English – and even though the app is set to English, everything appears in Chinese).

It would be important for me if I could see everything in English in the new app (sadly, there are no language settings), but still have the Chinese keyboard. Is this some kind of bug? Is it fixable?

Thank you in advance!

(PS I have an iPhone 13 Pro, but I had this problem with my previous phone as well, which was an SE2. My friend has a 13 Mini and she doesn’t have this problem.)

There was only Hungarian under “preferred languages”, but I added English as well and it worked! Now everything is back to normal and I’m so relieved. Thank you so much for your help!

There wasn’t any issue with Apple provided apps, only 3rd party apps and they didn’t even need my keyboard, so I have no idea why this happened…

I’m currently using Simplified Chinese Pinyin QWERTY, but I will have to switch it to Traditional Chinese in the near future (I already checked it and it works as well, nothing changes to Traditional Chinese).

Thank you so much for your help again!

In settings / general / language and region, do you have anything other than English or Hungarian under “preferred languages”? If so remove them. Be sure to keep English on the list, for any app that does not have Hungarian localization.

Do you see this behavior with any app provided by apple? If not, it may be caused by bugs in the 3rd party apps. They should not be looking at keyboards to determine their localization.

Which Chinese keyboard exactly are you using?

My guess would be that those apps perhaps don't have Hungarian localization, so they made a guess based on the keyboard. Adding English to the list would make then use that instead. Still a bit weird...
