Recently purchased four 2T SSD drives to backup other external USB drives. Yesterday drives showed on desktop and each directory was as expected. Today none of the drives will mount. Thought there might be a USB issue with my MacPro. So, tried connecting to MacBook but same problem. Attached one drive to an internal tray and rebooted but still no mount. Suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Mac Pro, macOS 10.14
Open Activity Monitor in Utilities, View>All Processes, sort on Name, see if fsck is running.
Force quit it & see if they mount.

Great news on the one hand my friend, but it doesn't bode well in the long term for integrity on those drives. :(
I formatted all these exFat. Could un-journaled format for SSDs become problematic?
I haven't really noticed any diff... it may be that Journaling is needed for some weakness of HFS+
