iPhone voice mail notification delay

We have two iPhones in our home. My iPhone has significant delays in receiving a voicemail notification, while my spouses iPhone receives it immediately. While I know the carrier sends the notification, is there any setting on the phone that can be toggled/adjusted?

I had this issue too, with Verizon iPhones. I found that permanently deleting old voicemails fixed this problem. When you delete the voicemail using the red trash can icon in the individual voicemail pane that voicemail goes to the Deleted Messages folder located at the bottom of the list. They seem to then stay in there forever if you don’t manually hit Clear All once you open that folder. We had hundreds of voicemails all the way from 2015! Once I cleared all of these old messages our new voicemails showed up instantly. I’m guessing the burden of all of these old messages is causing this delay in some aspect of the voicemail system. Hope this helps!

Hi Davidsh1313,

Yes, you are correct, voicemail is a function of the carrier, but let's make sure your iPhone is running properly.

First, close the Phone app, and reopen it so the app refreshes with the network: Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support

1. From the Home Screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle of the screen.
2. Swipe right or left to find the app that you want to close.
3. Swipe up on the app's preview to close the app.

We also recommend restarting your device and keeping it updated as those steps assure you have cleared out any minor software issues and are running the most current version.

Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

We hope that helps. If not, please reach out to your wireless carrier to make sure everything is provisioned correctly on your account.

Cheers!
