How do I eject drive when backup is complete?

You have to remove it as a backup drive first. You open the Time Machine settings in the menu bar and click the minus sign next to the drive. You may have to reboot to be able to eject.
I leave my Time Machine drive connected all the time. It automatically backs up every hour.
