Backup up to external hard drive On my new MacBook Air, I have backed it up to my external hard drive used for my 2015 MacBook Air that I no longer use. It worked for 3 or 4 backups but failed today. I bought a new Western 2TB drive and the Mac keeps ejecting it and then says you didn't close the disc down properly before ejecting. But I haven't been the one ejecting it. It started doing the backup - that's the furtherest it has gone - but then ejects the disc and it can't continue. Please help with suggestions.

Time Machine External Backup Disk Question I have a MacBook Pro. If an external backup disk is ejected before completing the backup, does it remember its place or do I have to start from scratch? It's telling me that the backup will take 4 days. Thanks

Right click on the external drive's icon found on the desktop and select eject. You can also eject the drive in Finder.
