If you are downloading an installer, what you have is not compatible with PadOS. Its for a Mac or Windows. Go to the App Store for apps for your iPad, but you will not find anything useful there. You really don’t need anti virus for the iPad.

Have you installed the McAfee Security; Privacy App from the App Store - or something else? You cannot install Apps for your iPad from other sources.

Be aware that there are no true Antivirus Products available for iOS/iPadOS. Those that claim to provide AV protection are little more than “snake oil” - and should generally be avoided.

Due to the sandboxed system architecture of iOS/iPadOS, your iPad is not susceptible to traditional malware infection per-se. All Apps run and are limited to their own sandbox; this isolation prevents malware from affecting other elements or the system - but also prevents an AV product from accessing or scanning any other processes.

What does this mean exactly? There is no such product in the iPad’s App Store. This product, “McAfee Security: VPN & Privacy” is there (in the U.S.):

Hopefully you realize you cannot use a Mac or PC installation on an iPad. iPad applications originate in the App Store.

McAfee would most likely be a VPN or Configuration Profile. What I think you mean by installer is the app itself, that should then either behave like a VPN or ask you to install a profile. When you say you can’t what happens when you try? Does the app crash immediately (go to McAfee support in this case), or does it show an alert (in this case what does it say?), or just straight up refuse(a failure to launch the app)?
