Carplay

My iPhone 12 Pro won’t connect to CarPlay just on one car. It always connects to any car but when I try connecting it to my car (by Bluetooth) it says my phone is not compatible with CarPlay even though it easily connects to any other car. I’ve tried everything already ( checked screen time, restarted my phone, connected and disconnected from CarPlay, “forgot” all the cars connected to my phone, hard reset my phone, basically anything that I saw on the internet)

iPhone 12 Pro, iOS 16

Hi tomer2412,

We’d be happy to see if we can help you figure this out.

If you need help with CarPlay is an Apple Support article with an official list of steps that are sure to help in this situation:

1. Check your connection to your CarPlay stereo:
• If you have a wired connection, try connecting again with a different USB cable to a different USB port if you have one.
• If you have a wireless connection, make sure that Bluetooth is turned on on your iPhone under Settings > Bluetooth. Then go to Settings > Wi-Fi, and make sure that Wi-Fi is also turned on. Tap the CarPlay network, and check that Auto-Join is turned on.

4. If CarPlay doesn't activate automatically, look for the CarPlay logo on your car's display and select it.

5. Restart your iPhone and your car.

6. Make sure that Siri is on.

7. If your iPhone isn't detected by CarPlay, make sure that CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. If Content & Privacy Restrictions is on, tap Allowed Apps, and make sure that CarPlay is enabled.

8. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, then tap Forget This Car. Then set up CarPlay again.

9. Make sure that your CarPlay stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.

You did mention that you tried most of these steps already, but we like to make sure we’re thorough.

Do you have the ability to connect your iPhone with the Lightning to USB cable that came with it? This will be a good way to isolate between the Bluetooth connection and compatibility.

Also, if you haven't already, we also strongly suggest that you follow through with #9. You may need to reach out to your dealership to confirm the firmware version of your system.

Still no joy? Tell us more about your vehicle and we'll see if we can continue to help.

  • What is the year, make, and model?
  • Has it ever successfully connected to an iPhone via CarPlay?
