Paramount + Channel "Subscribe" prompt instead of opening in Paramount+ App

I previously subscribed to Paramount+ as a channel via my Apple TV (4k 2nd gen), but preferred the Paramount+ app as it would only prompt "next episode" when I didn't have to purchase it, so I cancelled the Channel and subbed direct through Paramount.


Now anytime there's an unplayed episode in up next from Paramount+ content, it pops up prompting me to resubscribe as a channel INSTEAD of opening Paramount+ app.


What I've done so far -

  • Restarted the Apple TV and Updated to latest TVOS
  • cleared my watch history
  • uninstalled and reinstalled Paramount+ app from Apple TV


Any help is appreciated.

For help with the Up Next section of your Apple TV, you may need to see playback options to play from the app directly and not through an Apple added subscription. Check out and test the directions below found in the article here: Watch Now in the Apple TV app - Apple Support


"Start Watching from Up Next

  • In the Watch Now screen of the Apple TV app TV app, highlight an item in the Up Next row, then press the center or play button of the smart TV or device remote.
  • If the item is not available to play immediately, follow the onscreen instructions.


Press the back button of the smart TV or device remote to see playback options.

Press the back button again to return to Watch Now."


You may also need to remove old Apple ID sign in details for the app. The articles below have additional information to help.


Set up single sign-on with your TV provider on Apple TV - Apple Support


Use your pay TV or cable provider with Apple TV - Apple Support


If the issue continue reach out to Apple Support directly to further assist.

Hi MattSTKC,


Watch Now makes recommendations based on your watch history from Apple TV+, channel subscriptions, and connected apps. It's possible that Watch Now is making these recommendations based on your watch history from Paramount+ as a channel subscription, and there is no way to reset your watch history. This means it may take awhile for it to learn your preferences.


However, let's check to make sure you have the Paramount+ app connected and the channel disconnected in your Apple TV settings by following these instructions:


1. Open Settings on Apple TV.
2. Go to Apps > TV, then:
* Set which Apple TV channels and apps share content with the Apple TV app: Select an app from the list to turn it on or off.

Adjust Apple TV app settings - Apple Support

Thanks for replying, MattSTKC, and that additional info, it really helps! You maybe able to change behavior for the Paramount+ app on your Apple TV:


"Some apps may provide settings you can modify within the app.
* To see what other options may be available, go to Settings > Apps on Apple TV, then select the app."
