Please help me restore my pictures

I need help when I changed phones regardless of a successful transfer little by little I keep loosing a significant amount of pictures I don’t understand why. Please help me see what has happens and if I can get those pictures back! When I sent my phone back I sent it with a boy and no one ever called me back!

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Did you restore your photos using an iPhone backup or what steps did you take to put them on your new iPhone? That may help to make sure we're on the right track.

The issue you mentioned matches If you're missing photos or videos in the Photos app - Apple Support so we'd recommend starting with the guidance there. For instance, these steps will help you to check for and recover any photos in the Recently Deleted album.

"On your iPhone or iPad

In iOS 16, iPadOS 16.1, or later, use Face ID or Touch ID to unlock your Recently Deleted album.
Tap a photo or video, then tap Recover. To recover multiple photos, tap Select, select your photos or videos, then tap Recover.
Confirm that you want to recover the photos or videos."
