Macbook issues with Deco X50 router

Hi!

I noticed recently some issues with Macbook Pro M1 and Deco X50. In general I have multiple different routers, all working as an Access Points with DHCP disabled. My main router is serving to all clients in the network as DHCP server (and all APs are connected to it, Deco is one of them).

When moving from one area covered with different AP to area covered by Deco my Macbook can not obtain DHCP address. IP self assigned is from 169.x.x.x range.

All other devices works completely fine in the same time. Including Apple TV, Homepods Mini x2, Iphones and other non-Apple devices.

Any suggestions? I saw similar topic, already closed but no solution there...

You can only get a local "good" IP address when you can log in to from that computer to that exact router. Perhaps the network password is stored wrong.

Try deleting that as a preferred, log-in-automatically selection, and it should invite you to log in again, and re-specify the password.

Generally, best results are obtained by using the same network-name for all Access points.

Every device gives it self a "self-assigned" IP address to identify itself on the local network. Typically, it is replaced so quickly, you would swear "self-assigned" IP addresses did not apply to you.

When you keep your self-assigned address instead of transitioning to a local IP address, that indicates a connection problem, specifically, you can not connect back to the Router to get a good local IP address.

If limited to exactly ONE MacBook Pro, make sure you have RSSI of better than (closer to zero than) -50 when very close to a Router, as a check against disconnected antenna wires inside.

Hold the Option key while you click on the Wi-Fi icon son the MenuBar for a snapshot, like this older one:

<< I'm standing 1-2 meters far from Deco>>

Then do you have RSSI of -50 or better?

The 'better than -50' check will tell you whether the antenna wires are disconnected internally.

There are LOTS of posts about Mac Wi-Fi, but each "network neighborhood" is different, and the signals are radio signals, so users have many and varied individual issues.

There are no pervasive issues with MacOS Wi-Fi. Having another MacBook Pro on hand will not provide additional insights.

However, there are LOTS of software packages you could install that would poison your network performance.

Ok, yeah forgot to clarify it. All APs are configured with same security, same password and SSID name. For all devices it’s working perfectly, except MacBook. I can even be on call while roaming and I will have maybe 1 second brake, that’s all. Also I can confirm laptop is connected to Deco while having the issues with dhcp. I can see MacBook on connected clients list in deco app in the same time. Thanks for any suggestions!

Hey, it is not about signal quality. I'm standing 1-2 meters far from Deco, this router is covering whole floor 60 sq meters and any other device has this problem. And Macbook works perfectly fine with any other router (it's roaming between 3 of them, each one is different manufacturer).

Unfortunately I don't have any other Macbook Pro to check if it will have same issue.

I was rather thinking about some problematic features on router that Macbook doesn't like, for example 802.11r fast transition, but already checked and it's officially supported.
