wireless diagnostics fails to create a report

When I invoke the wireless diagnostics, they display a message that "When finished, a diagnostics report will be created in /var/tmp."

However, after running for several minutes I see: "Failed to create diagnostics report."

When I look in /var/tmp indeed there is no diagnostics report but possible signs of partial completion:

$ ls /var/tmp
IN_PROGRESS_sysdiagnose_2023.03.24_10-50-25-0500_macOS_MacBookPro18-2_21G419/

IN_PROGRESS_sysdiagnose_2023.03.24_10-50-25-0500_macOS_MacBookPro18-2_21G419.tar.gz
IN_PROGRESS_sysdiagnose_2023.03.24_10-50-25-0500_macOS_MacBookPro18-2_21G419.tmp/

Nothing is shown for "wifi" or "wireless" searching logs in the Console.

When I went back to look at the "IN_PROGRESS" files, they have been removed.

Hi rpg25,

To help us better assist you, can you confirm the process you're using to start diagnostics on your device?

Please check out the information in the following link, which explains how to diagnose problems with your computer’s internal hardware: Diagnose problems with your Mac

Diagnose problems with your Mac

Apple Diagnostics is a tool you can use to diagnose problems with your computer’s internal hardware, such as the logic board, memory, and wireless components. You may be able to start your Mac with Apple Diagnostics, even if it doesn’t start using macOS.

To use Apple Diagnostics, follow the instructions in the Apple Support article Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac.

* You may want to print the instructions before you begin. Choose File > Print, then click Print.
* If Apple Diagnostics reports that your Wi-Fi card is not working properly, contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for service. Repairs performed by untrained individuals or using non-genuine Apple parts may affect the safety and functionality of the device.

If you're experiencing an issue with Wireless Diagnostics on your Mac, please check out the details in the following link to ensure the correct process is being used, so we can make sure there aren't any issues there: Use Wireless Diagnostics on your Mac

Use Wireless Diagnostics on your Mac

If you can connect to your Wi-Fi router but have issues loading webpages, sending or receiving email, or streaming music or video, use Wireless Diagnostics to analyze the network’s connection to the internet. After the analysis is complete, you get a list of detected issues and possible solutions, and information about Wi-Fi best practices.

Note: Wireless Diagnostics doesn’t change your network settings.

1. On your Mac, quit all open apps.
2. Try to join the Wi-Fi network you’re having problems with (if you’re not already connected).
3. Press and hold the Option key, click the Wi-Fi status icon  in the menu bar, then choose Open Wireless Diagnostics.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to analyze your network connection.
5. After the analysis is complete, click the Info buttons  in the Summary pane to learn more about each item in the list.

Thanks!
