I see folks with this problem on their iPhones, but I'm having this on my MacBook Air (M1, 2020), although the photos are being taken with my iPhone 13 mini. If I take any photo and edit it by either cropping or clicking the Auto Enhance icon, when I click Done, I immediately get the small cloud with an exclamation point icon in the bottom right of the photo. Clicking on the icon produces the error in the headline. Once this happens, I can't do much with the photo, except view it.
- If I try to "Duplicate", I get the error "Failed to download assets for duplication"
- If I try to share the photo via Messages, nothing happens
- If I try to drag/drop the photo to my desktop, I get the error screen (attached), and on that error screen, if I click Reveal in Finder, nothing happens.
If I "Revert to Original", the icon goes away and all is fine. I usually apply some edit to all my photos but I just noticed this in the last couple of weeks. I have iCloud sync turned on, which has been on for years. But I do notice that I don't have this problem with editing and sharing a Photo on my iPhone. Also, a photo on my Mac with the error icon doesn't appear on the same photo on my iPhone. If I had to guess, this appears to be a problem with the background syncing process.
