Apple Watch cannot update Apple ID Settings

Just turned in my old apple watch or an Ultra. At the Apple Store. Paired, set up but it keeps asking me for AppledID password. I enter it correctly and it returns the error message “There was a problem connecting to the server.” I know it’s the correct password because a) I know my password, b) I entered it at the Apple Store in front of an employee while I transferred from one watch to the other and it worked and c) if you put in the wrong password, you get a different error message. I called Apple, waste of time. Store can’t help.


This $1000 watch is basically half useless, and I cannot get it to finish setting up. I’ve reset, restarted, am updated, all the obvious stuff, etc. Nothing works. Very frustrated.

I suspect there may be apps on the iPhone that were purchased using another Apple ID then you signed into a different Apple ID instead of factory resetting the iPhone.


As the Ultra is a completely new experience I suggest unpairing the Watch then set it up as a New Watch.

 Unpair and erase your Apple Watch – Apple Support (UK)

(this will create a backup too)

Then set up as a new watch

takes about 20 minutes
