Delete multiple files

Macbook Ventura: highlighted several files in downloads, pressed shift & tried to move all to bin but they wouldn't delete. Tried with Command, ditto. I find it unhelpful with touchpad to move anything across the screen to the bin, slips away too easily. Also the click on file doesn't work, there's nowhere on it to move to trash or bin or even delete. So hopeless so far.

Thank for your reply. This is a newish laptop (Nov.) so I don't want to re-boot - don't know how to do that either but I don't want to lose all the files I've got or risk doing so. I should be able to highlight them all but the process doesn't follow through. I find this laptop occasionally does 'stick' eg with touchpad & in some processes so if that continues of course I'll take it up with Apple.

Hi again,

Just discovered: if I click on e.g. multiple then stay on one of those & click Control, a right hand sidebar appears with 'Move to Bin' as an option so deletes that way. There is no 'delete' or move to bin anywhere else on the Photos screen, nor in drop down File, Edit, nor that appears anywhere resulting from pressing different parts of the touchpad.

Thanks again for your interest.
