Hairline screen crack

If so many people are reporting screen cracks with no obvious damage, could it be a faulty display? I don't understand how closing the computer an opening it to find a crack can be blamed on the user. I just feel like if I pay almost $3000 for a computer, it should not be so easily damaged.
