iPhone not receiving texts

In my town there is no cell phone service available. I can connect to wifi in my home in order to make or receive calls or to send or receive texts to other iPhone users. Recently, however, my phone is no longer receiving either texts from users of android phones or texts from any automated systems (for example any 2-step security ID system). These texts will arrive on my phone once I have gone to another location that has cell phone coverage. This wasn't the case in the past, and I didn't change any of my settings. Can someone help me figure out how to fix this? Now that many sites require 2-step security ID texts this is becoming increasingly problematic.

I understand that you are receiving SMS and iMessage texts when you are connected to a cellular network. You are also able to make and receive calls when connected to a cellular network.

When you are connected to a Wi-Fi Network then you are able to make and receive calls. You are able to send receive iMessages. You are NOT able to send or receive SMS messages when connected to a Wi-Fi Network.

(1) Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

Press and quickly release Volume UP button
Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).

(2) If the above does not resolve the issue then - Try resetting network settings by opening the Settings app ➡️ General ➡️ Transfer or Reset iPhone ➡️ Reset ➡️ Reset Network Settings: You will have to enter your Wi-Fi password(s) again as you connect to the Wi-Fi networks.

(3) If none of the above resolves the SMS issue over a Wi-Fi Network, then you will have to contact your carrier and have them check the settings on your account at their side.

You are welcome. Glad that the issue has been resolved. Good thing that you recorded the Wi-Fi passwords prior to resetting the network settings. Keep that list handy for any future references.

Solution #2 worked. Thank you for the reminder that I would lose any Wi-Fi passwords my phone had stored. I was able to record the passwords I'll need again so it will be easier to recreate.
