Issue opening files from Google Drive Finder window after installing macOS Ventura 13.3 update

I just downloaded and installed the macOS Ventura 13.3 update on my Mac Pro and after doing so, I can no longer open files that are stored in my Google Drive. Google Drive is downloaded to my Mac where I can open the folders/files from the Finder Window but when I click to open a PDF or Word doc (where the file is showing in the Finder window but is stored on Google Drive), the app itself opens (Adobe or Word) but not the document/file I clicked on to open. Before installing the update earlier this morning, I was able to open files with no issues. I tested it out and copied the files from the Google Drive finder window onto the desktop and then when trying to double-click to open those files, they opened with no issues...so I'm assuming it has something to do with Google Drive??

We are experiencing very similar / same issue, it seems it is happening on files (most probably not only) with UTF-8 encoded diacritics. Example in Czech language: řžýá.docx will result in files not opening, rzya.docx will open fine. Affecting not only Google Drive app but also download - note below, depending on browser.

Reproduction steps for Google Drive:

1) Create a document in Google Drive (web)

2) Name it with diacritics

3) Download it as DOCX

4) Try to open the document - Word will launch but will fail to open the file without any error.

5) After the document is renamed (anyhow), open will work just fine.

At the moment, we think this is not a specific Google Drive issue (the same happening at other similar apps we tested, including one we developed).

Also, it's interesting that Safari is not affected (or so it seems). It looks like Safari is doing something that is converting UTF-8 encoded characters to latin1 on download.

Mine is too. PDF file is opened but ms-word files aren't.

I even deleted my entire Mac OS and reinstalled it. The phenomenon is still same on going.

This didn't seem to work when I tried it. The correct app/program itself still opens but not the actual file.

this is the only thing that has worked for me and I'm thankful that bug is gone on my laptop! That was so annoying!

Can somebody confirm the issue is resolved in the newest release of macOS Ventura 13.4 that was just released?

The problems seems to be fixed now also on Big Sur, after installing the 11.7.7 update (Macbook Pro 2014).

I'll try to find my lost trust in macOS functionality.

it is mat 2024 and still the same issue. MacBook folder does not recognize pdf file that are added through google drive.
