iPhone 14 Plus iOS 16.4 Battery Drain

I recently purchased an iPhone 14 Plus and updated it to iOS 16.4. However, since the update, I have noticed a significant decrease in battery life. My phone is draining its battery much faster than before, even when I am not actively using it.

I have tried restarting my iPhone and checking the battery usage stats to see which apps are consuming the most power. I have also disabled background app refresh and location services for apps that I don't use frequently. Unfortunately, these steps have not resolved the issue.

I am reaching out to the Apple community section for assistance in resolving this problem. Has anyone else experienced similar battery drain issues after updating to iOS 16.4? If so, have you found any solutions or workarounds? Apple should take necessary actions. why a trustable company do like this to its customers?

I appreciate your suggestion that the battery drain may be due to behind the scenes tasks that the phone is completing after the update. I will keep an eye on my battery usage over the next day or so to see if it improves.

However, I have also noticed that my phone is draining battery even when it is not in use or in standby mode. I have disabled background app refresh and location services for apps that I don't use frequently, but the battery drain issue still persists.

Do you have any other suggestions for resolving this issue, or is it possible that there may be a hardware problem with my device?

Battery life on iOS 16.4.1 is terrible.

I was traveling abroad for ten days. My iphone14pro was on airplane mode the entire time, and battery was dropping steadily while just being on standby. I had to charge it nightly as if i used it heavily during the day.

Meanwhile i was using iphone11 (running on ios15.x) for taking photos, maps, and had mobile data turned on. Battery life was much better considering i was using it all day.

I made the right choice to not update my i11 to the latest ios version.

I updated to 16.4.1 at least four days ago, since then I've been monitoring this extreme battery drain through Battery settings; overnight last night it dropped 29%, and when I select individual hours to find out what's using the battery, I see Screen Time On 0m, Screen Time Off 0m, Usage by app is not available for 4AM - 5AM (for example). Drop is very consistent across the overnight hours though - it's a very steady downward slope on the battery graph.

I'm using an iPhone 12 mini w/battery health at 96%. Battery would consistently last almost 48h prior to 16.4 / 16.4.1 - it was great! - now I don't make it to 24h, even with minimal use. Phone is also consistently warmer than usual, even when not charging and w/cool ambient temperatures, so it must be doing something in the background, even overnight, but I guess whatever it's doing is a hidden system process that don't get reported to the Battery settings? I would figure after four-plus days, that any iOS "indexing" would have been completed.

Just wanted to follow-up on this. About six days after updating to 16.4.1, my battery appears to be back to normal. This indicates that the estimates of 1-2 days for iOS to perform clean-up, re-indexing, or whatever the processes are, may not be entirely accurate in all cases. This has just been my experience with this latest update, but wait a few more than 1-2 days -- give it a week! -- and see what happens.

The Rapid Security Response updates are very new. The first one was released earlier this week. So, at the time you were told that updates were not generally security only, it was probably accurate.

If it is "hundreds" of people affected, that's still a miniscule percent of all iPhone users, even of all iPhone users of iOS 16.x. That makes it very, very hard to gather enough data to figure out what the problem is. And, to be brutally honest, if I were in charge of such things at Apple, a problem that affects a very small number of people and may or may not be caused by iOS would be way down my priority list.

For those of us who are affected by the battery drain, it is *not* a low priority. Some of us work or don't stray far from home and can recharge easily during the day; others might have to buy a portable charger, which should not be required for an expensive device such as an iPhone and which itself must be recharged to be functional. I've already reported my continuing problem here and to Apple and hope they will come up with a solution or give us a way to go back to iOS 15.

I’ve read all 9 pages of comments. This battery drain is no “small” problem. My new battery drained 27% in less than a half an hour. Three days ago before this 16.4.1 update my battery lasted all day unless I was using it heavily then I’d have to charge it a little at the end of the day. I’ve tried every offered suggestion I’ve found online and here to no avail. I switched from Windows and Android because I thought Apple was better than this. Being tethered to a charger 24 hours a day is simply not an option. I sure would hate to go back to Windows and Android but this is unacceptable. By the by, my battery went down 3% in the amount of time it took to type this and typing is my job so you can guess I’m not a slow typist. And so begins my disenchantment with Apple. So sad
