How does the iphone not count steps whilst driving? But it seems to count whilst I am cycling which I don't understand.

No, it's not. Driving a car is like sitting in a chair. When you're riding a bike, your legs are moving and that moves you're whole body. It moves up and down, side to side. The accelerometer measures all of those movements. And, unless you drive very differently than I do, you're not moving very much when you drive.

Your legs are not moving when you're driving but they are when you're cycling?
The movement is the same to the phone surely - it's inside a backpack on my back when cycling and similarly sitting next to me when driving.
