Guides on Apple Maps disappeared after iOS16.4 update

My created guides with saved locations on Apple Maps have disappeared after the update. My Home/Work favorites are still there. I do have maps backing up to icloud turned on. Anyone else have this issue?

Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud, and make sure that the toggle next to Maps is turned on. If it is turned off, turn it on and wait for a few minutes to see if your favorites and guides reappear. Check Apple ID: Ensure that you are signed in with the correct Apple ID on your iPhone…..On my settings the toggle button was set to on. So, what I did was >toggled the Maps off >then back on waited a minute then >launched the Apple Maps app and all My Guides reappeared. Hope this helps everyone out with this issue.

The workaround for this issue is to save a copy of your guides in your notes. In the event your phone restarts, you can navigate to the notes where your guides are saved and reopen them in the Maps app.

It appears every time you turn the phone off; all guides are deleted upon powering up. From my short tests, saving one copy of your guides seems to be the trick for replacing the missing data once you reopen it.

Hope this helps!

Getting this to Work Fine:

Reset to Factory Settings: If no success with Apple Support, then I recommend that you set this up anew, as if you were to sell it. Perform as instead here, including the iCloud logout:  What to do Before you Sell, Give Away, or Trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. Backup what need be, prior to performing this. All would go to default, and the bugs and glitches would be expected to go away. The phone number will reside and will not be affected

I updated a few days ago and was adding to my guides as recent as yesterday and I just realized they're now all gone. Basically my maps is a clean slate except it knows my home address. I saved over 100 places on my guides and desperately hope to get it back with an update or it'll just pop up on its own. It was already frustrating getting this update because it was telling me I didn't have space for it when I did, then this maps thing happens :/

I did the suggested steps to get it back and still nothing. I'm hoping they come with a solution fast

At this point, I don’t expect the guides and favorites issue will be resolved. Since March 31st I’ve spoken with Apple Support three times and provided them the data they requested. As of this date they have had no resolution as they cannot figure it out.

The data is backed up in iCloud but Apple Support can’t explain the glitch. It’s an unfortunate situation.

Unfortunate is an understatement!!! Why did they clean us out of all our accumulated (painstakingly at that) Guides???

Why these were Removed:

I wouldn’t know. Either it was a, intentionally-removed feature —or it was a mishap. These are just user-to-user forums. I’m just an everyday Apple user like yourself.

So, do your part, and get the word out to Apple.

It’s the updates, not the restarts… I’ve been marking up the map for years, through many restarts & had more than 500 secret camping locations in every national forest on the continent marked. Lost them all this year during an update. The “well, you should’ve been using the cloud” is a horrendous excuse: why offer “time machine” backup to a physical hard drive & then only allow it to back up part of your data?
