iPhone 13 websites “hanging” (slow, sluggish and/or failed website loading)

Hi all,

My family member’s iPhone 13 works otherwise perfectly, except it has trouble loading websites. This includes videos, and by that I mean more than just YouTube. She prefers to use Google Chrome for some reason, but Safari fares no better when she’s tested it. This only started ever since she upgraded to this iPhone 13. Her iPhone 12 mini, and before that her iPhone 8 and all iPhones before, never had this problem, and the iPhone 13 is supposed to be way faster than these other phones. She does have more than 70 tabs open in Chrome but says she’s always done this with no adverse affects on any other iPhone. Additionally, none of the rest of us have this problem with our various iPhones and iPads (including her own iPad and MacBook Air). In case this is helpful, we have an eero Pro 6 tri-router mesh system, and despite having 65 HomeKit accessories, our Wi-Fi speed is never under 400 megabits/sec. We also use Verizon 5G unlimited plans for all our iPhones.

With this in mind, anyone have any suggestions on what to try to get her web browsing working correctly? I’m sort of a combination tech geek and Apple fanboy so needless to say, 1) her iPhone software is up to date, and 2) I’ve tried the advice in every Apple support article about this issue and then some, from basics like restarting the phone and force closing the browsers to turning off iCloud Private Relay and fiddling with more advanced settings. A few things we haven’t tried: clearing ALL cookies and browsing history, which she says she hasn’t done in years, and wiping and restoring the iPhone. Anything else worth trying, or do I need to convince her to just give in and reset and restore the phone?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities PhotographyFather,

The following page provides the most specific and relevant steps to address and resolve the type of performance issues you're describing: If your iPhone or iPad is running slow

The section below is particularly relevant:

Check your network conditions

Many apps require an internet connection for their content and other functionality. If the network that you're connected to is congested — for example, at an event with many people using the same network — apps might take a while to open or display their content. Your device can also seem slow as it repeatedly reconnects to new cell towers when you're in a moving vehicle.
Even if your device indicates a strong signal, you might need to wait, try again in a different location, or use available Wi-Fi. If you continue to experience issues with cellular data speed, availability, or performance in multiple locations, contact your carrier.

If you complete all the steps from that page, and the device still doesn't respond like you expect, contact Apple Support.

Cheers!
