macOS M1 downgrade from base os Ventura back to Monterey

macOS M1 downgrade from base os Ventura back to Monterey - when I boot into recovery and select my usb Monterey install - Macintosh HD is greyed out and I cannot select it - why can't I downgrade? I have erased the Macintosh HD still cannot re-image to Monterey any ideas?

Downgrading macOS Last week i upgraded to the latest macOS Sonoma beta, and i found it hard to use, so I plan to downgrade my MacBook Pro back to macOS Monterey. I know that reinstalling macOS does not delete any of my data, so is it possible that I create a bootable usb with macOS Monterey and reinstall macOS monterey with that usb stick and successfully complete the downgrade?

How did you erase the drive? You can cause all sorts of problems on an M1 Mac if you erase the entire drive.

I don’t understand that statement. You should boot from the USB installer, not Recovery.
