deleting the latest iPhone update

I keep trying to delete the latest iPhone update by going to my iPhone storage and clicking 'delete update'. but whenever I click that it doesn't go away, it just keeps appearing. I've tried shutting my phone off and turning it back on but the update is still there. im confused as to why the update said 7MB because when I downloaded the update it was a couple GB. does anyone know how to successfully delete the update? because clicking the 'delete update' button isn't working

Hello houseembers,

Thanks for posting here in Apple Support Communities. Let's make sure that you're following the correct steps to delete the update. Check this out: If your iPhone or iPad won't update - Apple Support

Remove and download the update again

If you still can't install the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, try downloading the update again:
1. Go to Settings > General > [Device name] Storage.
2. Find the update in the list of apps.
3. Tap the update, then tap Delete Update.
4. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and download the latest update.

Kind regards.

I tried re-installing and then deleting again but had no luck. I also shut my phone off and turned it back on again. I’m confused because in my settings I see the update under my settings, which made me think I successfully deleted it. But all of the features that came with the update are still present on my phone.

Then when I go to my storage I keep seeing the update labeled as 7MB. I tried deleting it over and over again but it doesn’t disappear.

I really need to delete this update as it has significantly reduced my battery life.

Hey houseembers,

One thing we want to do is put your mind at ease. Updating an Apple device does use a bit more battery power, but the battery life means the entire life of your battery and not just one day’s usage. You can learn more about the battery life of an iPhone here: iPhone Battery and Performance - Apple Support

Have you tried restarting your iPhone, then trying to remove the update file? Restarting refreshes the whole device which can help with unexpected behavior like this: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

If you’re still unable to delete the update file, if you own a Mac or Windows PC, you can update it using either iTunes or Finder instead.

For Macs on macOS Catalina or later - Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with the Finder - Apple Support

For Windows PCs and Macs on macOS Mojave or earlier - Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes - Apple Support

Please let us know the results when you're able.

All the best.
