CarPlay sound quality issues when leaving or arriving at home

I see many people have posted about this before, but I experience this anomaly in three different cars all with CarPlay.

This cannot be an isolated incident or issue.

When I get my car, I turn on CarPlay l, it connects and music starts. We’re all good.

As I pull out of my driveway, the audio quality drops and it sounds kind of tinny or empty, but I can still hear the music, but something is not quite right with it.

As soon as I get about a half a mile away from home, the music returns to normal and is restored.

When I arrive home again it seems like another geo-fence of some sort kicks in and I have poor audio quality again.

Hi chris-w,

The most probable answer here would be related to your Wi-Fi network given this happens the same across multiple vehicles.

If you turn Wi-Fi off under Settings > Wi-Fi before leaving your home, then try to recreate the issue, does the same thing happen? Also, make sure Wi-Fi Assist under Settings > Cellular is toggled off.

If it does not, it is probable the bitrate is adjusting to your fading Wi-Fi signal until you're finally fully out of range and it kicks over to cellular.

Let us know the results.

Take care.
