"my photos won't show full screen: thank you for your help. I have tried A and B but as a newbee I don't want to go to C as I don't really know enough about the iMac yet. Strange thing is Full Screen works in other apps but not in Photos. Oh well I'll keep trying. Thanks again, Don."

Two Other Thoughts...

  • Try a New Admin User:

What happens when you create a new administrator user, and log int it? Do you still get this error? If not, then it is likely an error with the current user. If so, then it is likely an error with your macOS.

  • Reinstall the macOS:

Nothing would be lost. It's just that dislocated items would be placed back to where they should be and corrupt system files would be replaced by clean files. Go Here: Reinstall macOS - Apple Support. IMPORTANT: Create a Time Machine backup of your Mac, so that you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the reinstall. "my photos won't show full screen: Sorry, I am very new to the Mac system. I am in fact asking about my iMac 24. Up until yesterday I could just click the green button and the photos would show in full screen. Today nothing happens. Could I have done something accidentally? Thanks or any help"

No need to Apologize :)

Double-Click in Photos:

No so certain about this "green button" you are referring to. But, open the Photos app, and then double-click on the photo. In doing so, then photo opens in full-screen.

Troubleshooting a Maximizing a Window:

Being continuous, it seems there is an error in the system caches. So, refer to the following...

Three Things to Try...

A. Start with a Restart:

Restart your Mac, and see if it then is fixed.

B. Refresh Finder:

  1. Go To: Apple menu
  2. Select: Force Quit...
  3. Select: Finder
  4. Click: Refresh button

C. Boot in Safe Mode:

In Safe ModeLogin Items do not run at login, certain preferences are set aside, and damaged system files are then reset. So, once booted in to Safe Mode, wait 30 seconds, and then boot up normally, attempting another update install. For instructions, go here: How to Use Safe Mode on your Mac - Apple Support
