The login image for my imac has changed to a ghost

After turning on my iMac, the login image above where i type in my login password was a graphic of a ghost. I did NOT login. I am afraid to. Does anyone have how this could happen?

iMac 24″, macOS 13.2

Hello Sunseeker01,

I know that if I saw what you describe, I would want more information as well. When you say ghost do you mean like pack man enemies/casper or a silhouette of a person where your picture was?

If it is the latter, then it is possible you have done an update and are using a photo as your login pic and your computer does not have access. You may have to log in and open photos or grant permissions. You may also have filevault turned on and removed the user that initially turned it on. There are a few reasons why that happens to be honest.

If it is the former, someone may be pulling a joke on you.

Can you provide a picture?

Thank you

Mikel S.
