I sometimes need to use my iPhone as a hotspot using 4G.
Yesterday I discovered that I can no longer connect my MacBook Air to my iPhone SE (second generation) over Bluetooth. (Lots on this on the Support Forum.)
The iPhone has Lightning, the MacBook Air has USB-C. Will a wired connection between them support hotspot networking?

I bought a USB-C to Lightning cable and it works fine in setting up a Personal Hotspot.
But the Mac identifies the connection as being Bluetooth PAN rather than USB! I then checked that Bluetooth was off on both devices and it still says the same!
Very strange.
Not true, you can also tether it using a cable.
Which led to:

which explicitly mentions Lightning to USB-C.
