unlock phone when the screen is unresponsive

Is there a way to unlock my iPhone when the screen is totally unresponsive without losing data? I’ve tried a forced restart and that did not help. The phone charges, receives calls, notifications and texts which I cannot answer or access. I can give Siri commands but it asks me to unlock my phone to continue. It’s an XS and the Face ID stopped working about a month ago.

Just got back from vacation and it does not look like all my photos are in iCloud so I’d like yo get those synced before trying to restore from a back up. Thanks.

I was able to unlock my damaged phone with an external keyboard. Once unlocked, the phone connected to my home Wi-Fi and my vacation photos were synced in iCloud therefore nothing was lost.

Restart your iPhone or iPad. Make sure that your screen is clean and free of any debris or water. Disconnect any Lightning or USB-C accessories. If your screen works after removing an accessory, try using a different outlet, cable, or charger.

Backups are kept only for such situations. If you had not taken a backup then I am sorry for your situation.

You can't take a backup after things go bad.
