Flash drive format

Can my iPad or iPhone format a flash drive using a lightning connector in a compatible format for same?

Unfortunately not.


To be recognised by iPadOS, the attached USB storage device must be formatted to FAT, FAT32, exFAT, APFS or HFS+ with a single partition. Microsoft NTFS is not supported.


Formatting and partitioning, if required, must be performed using a separate computer - such as a Windows PC or Mac; iOS/iPadOS devices have no capability to (re)format an external storage device.
