Knocking sound on iPhone calls

Why do you I hear a knocking on wood type of sound when I am on the phone with other iPhone users? Does anyone else have this problem? It is very annoying I tried iPhone reset and carrier and hardware and no luck

So I’ve been having the same issue, I thought my friend I talk to all the time was doing major remodeling. Anyway, I also have Mint, so today I tried turning WiFi calling off and that seems to work, I’ve been on the phone for a few hours and the hammering is gone. Give it a try!

Same exact thing happening with me. The timbre/quality of the knocking seemed to change, sometimes getting more intense, but always the same tempo. Girlfriend can’t hear it on her side. Seemed to only happen when she was on speaker phone, so perhaps that’s something to troubleshoot? Girlfriend has an iphone. Mine is an iphone XR. Hope more people comment so this thread can get bigger and a solution can be found!

I have same issue and was sprint switched to T-Mobile after merge I have read this tread and due to my experiences with this noise/issue it has to be T-Mobile cause when it happens to me it doesn’t matter what carrier what type of phone or even if it’s a landline rather if I’m on speaker or if the other caller is on speaker I’m the only one hearing it, it may not be every call or all the time but I do experience it enough to realize T-Mobile has a problem with that and after reading everybody’s comments yes it is T-Mobile. Thank you for this tread so I too know I’m not crazy!

I have been having this issue consistently for at least a month or so. I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max and I am with T-Mobile. I have been with them for years but just got this phone mid-May. Before that I had an iPhone 11. I think I only heard the knocking sound once or twice with that phone but I hear at lot with this one and usually only when I’m talking to my fiancé who has an iPhone 12 with AT&T. I heard it once when I was leaving my aunt a voicemail (she has an iPhone).

We did some testing and figured out that it only happens when he has me on speakerphone (same as jena25) and it usually stops when he starts talking. He doesn’t hear it but after I recorded the sounds (it comes in different volumes and pitches), he did remember hearing the higher-pitched sound once but thought I was doing something. When I first would hear it, that’s exactly what I thought, that he was just doing stuff in the background or it was his fan. Now that he and I are talking it through, I heard it a lot on the iPhone 11, but it was only at night. We stay on the phone all night long and while he was sleeping, I would hear it but I thought it was his heater or fan.

I don’t believe this is a T-Mobile iPhone specific. Maybe just T-Mobile. I had a Samsung S21 Ultra before switching to the iPhone 15 and I had this issue prior to having my iPhone. I think specifically just T-Mobile issue. I also thought it was possibly tower specific. However I was helping someone make a phone call and they had an android and I also heard the knocking sound as they were on speaker - again a T-Mobile customer.

Thank you all who have commented their experience and continue to comment. For those experiencing it gives us all a sense that we are not alone in the battle.

Seems like we all have tried to go to our carriers and had no luck and by carriers I mean T Mobile. I think I am going to switch to Verizon if the noise continues to be there. Have no idea why that would be the case for us.

For those of you that have this issue and have not commented please share your experience so we can gather enough users experiencing this to show t mobile something needs to be done.
