Knocking sound on iPhone calls

Why do you I hear a knocking on wood type of sound when I am on the phone with other iPhone users? Does anyone else have this problem? It is very annoying I tried iPhone reset and carrier and hardware and no luck

About a month since I switched to T-Mobile. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max. It sounds like someone is knocking or lightly hammering something (tap, tap, tap, tap). It stops when someone talks, but if there’s any silence it happens consistently.

It's not the phone. We have (2) here that both do it and my iPhone 13 did it too. That rules out the model at least.

Bottom line, we either have to wait until someone important enough reports this to get it addressed or live with it OR change carriers.

Yea it's annoying but not enough for us to change companies. If someone ever connects with an inside engineer at TMO, we might have a chance. I had a decent guy inside in Chicago that was my go-to for weird stuff like this but he quit like almost all of the decent engineers around. I don't even know where they all go.

Reporting it to Apple seems to do nothing, so advice here is to tell others not to waste your time with a so called Genius Bar appointment.

I mean really, talk about an oxymoron within Apple...

Keep hoping for a carrier update that MIGHT address this issue within the phone but I'm not certain that will fix it.

I've been with Tmobile since 2011...live the service but this knocking is ridiculous. I'm not interested in switching carriers...my dghtrs both have iphones with AT&T. My husband and I are on my Tmobile plan and it seems to only happen to me. Doesn't matter who I'm talking to, the phone they have, or the carrier. Quite annoying and Tmobile need to address it. I say let's tak2 it to social media then maybe they'll address it

TMO has a group on Twitter (X) now, called T-Force. I know the company CEO dumped the majority of the staffers in that group as he claimed they were not needed. What BS. They were a great group that would really try to help and from what I gathered, all USA based. Since they schwacked most of the staff, I haven't tried to reach out - but if someone wants to, thats where I would start as well...

Good luck!

I am curious, is anyone also noticing they never are on 5G coverage? I’m on At&t pay as you go (planning to go back to my TMo plan so I am not double paying) and I can clearly see I have 5G in many areas and never saw 5G on the TMo on this same phone. When I go back to the account I will be asking them why the knocking and the lack of 5G impacts my account…

I wish people would stop swapping out their phones. Besides the hassle, it WILL NOT fix this issue.

Posting in here won't help guys. I'm fairly sure TMO doesn't watch this board and even Apple.

Reach out to TMO support and complain.

Open a case with Apple to 'log' this issue but KEEP your phone. You could use that to tell TMO that Apple said the equipment is AOK.

Hit TMO on social media like X (Twitter) and report this to someone that might actually DO something to help.

So this knocking sound has bothered me for over a year! I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max. I have always had the Fre cases to protect my phones! Will I read to take case off and I tried it and knocking went away!! I would have never believed it if I hadn’t tried it myself! I got a cheap case off Amazon and it’s been over a month and no KNOCKING! Give it a try and see what happens.

I don’t believe this is a T-Mobile iPhone specific. Maybe just T-Mobile. I had a Samsung S21 Ultra before switching to the iPhone 15 and I had this issue prior to having my iPhone. I think specifically just T-Mobile issue. I also thought it was possibly tower specific. However I was helping someone make a phone call and they had an android and I also heard the knocking sound as they were on speaker - again a T-Mobile customer.
