1 week ago I purchased a new Iphone 13 from apple store at summit mall. The phone is carrier locked to xfinity mobile ( never used that carrier) How do I unlock the phone? The apple store is 1.5 hrs away and really don't want to deal with all that again.

Apple Stores don't sell locked iPhones. Was it an actual Apple Store? Or a 3rd party reseller?

If it is indeed locked, then only the carrier it is locked to can unlock it. Apple can't unlock it, and there's no way to get it unlocked without contacting Xfinity
With that said, iPhone's don't actually identify what carrier they are locked to direct though. They will say it may have a Sim Lock, but usually don't identify the carrier. How do you know its Xfinity?

What does the receipt say?
Call Apple Care.
Ask Xfinity Mobile to unlock it, or sell it to one of their customers and buy a different one.

If I were in your shoes, I would take it back to the seller and ask for a refund, demonstrating that it is locked to a previous carrier.
