iphone 14 pro won't connect to my 2.4ghz wifi network

Hi. I'm sorry if this question has already been asked, but I've scrolled through several pages without seeing an answer...

I recently had to purchase a new modem as mine decided to crap out. This has caused havoc with all of my "smart" devices as they all have to be redone with the new modem( I input the same network names and passwords as before). When this happened, I found that my iphone 14pro will not connect to my 2.4 ghz wifi network. My phone acts like it's connecting, but then says there is no internet connection. 5g works just fine. I need to be able to get on that network as all "smart" devices require that.

I have spent an hour on the phone with ARRIS who is my modem/router. Went through several steps with no resolution.

  • I have re-started my modem several times
  • It is not the modem or wifi network as I am able to connect my Surface Pro to the 2.4ghz network with no problem
  • I have updated (16.1) and restarted my phone
  • I have tried turning off cellular and data
  • I have made sure that Wi-fi assist is on
  • I have never had this issue with my Samsung phone

Any suggestions/help different from what I have already tried would be much appreciated. It's very frustrating not to be able to control or add to my "smart devices".

Thank you

iPhone 14 Pro

One thing that I didn't see in your list (great troubleshooting, btw), is to reset your phone's network settings. To do so, tap on Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Setting

Note: This resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, trust settings, and VPN and APN settings that you’ve used before. You just need to re-connect to your Wi-Fi using your wireless credentials (SSID & wireless security password).

I had the same thing happen to my home network after a power failure that killed my router. I replaced my whole system with the Festa tp-link and WAM!!! can no longer connect to a 2.4 GHz WiFi. What I figured out was that there is this advanced option set of converting multicast to unicast. When I turned these all off then my iPhone 16, MacBook Pros are now able to connect. I hope this helps.

Here’s a possible solution. It usually works for me with devices on a 2.4ghz network. I found this out as one of my devices recommended it during troubleshooting.

  1. Go into iPhone settings
  2. Tap on “Wi-Fi”
  3. 2.4ghz network should be selected.
  4. Tap on the “i” icon next to your 2.4ghz network.
  5. Make sure “Private Wi-Fi Address” is off.
  6. Recheck connectivity with the 2.4ghz device
  7. Complete steps 1-3 again to ensure this setting is on “fixed” or “rotating”.

This happened to me a few days ago. My garage door opener just fell off the 2.4 GHz network and couldn’t reconnect. Then I discovered my iPhone 13 Pro couldn’t connect to the 2.4 GHz network either. I made no changes to my network to cause the problem. I’m still using an ancient AirPort Extreme base station router. I was able to get the garage door opener back online by creating a guest network as a previous poster suggested. So the problem isn’t actually fixed just worked around. Just for fun I just tried my MacBook Pro M1 Pro, and it can’t connect to the original 2.4 GHz network nor the new guest network. The MacBook is running macOS 15.0, and the iPhone is on iOS 18.0. The problems began before I upgraded either device to these new operating systems, however.
