Bluetooth connection issues Oticon hearing aids

i recently upgraded my iPhone to iOS 16.4 and my Oticon hearing aids won’t stay connected to my phone. I went to my audiologist and had my hearing aid firmware updated so it’s not that.

Re: "this lack of compatibility between Oticon and iPhone really has me stumped as well".

Wondering if your Oticon model is one of those listed as compatible by Apple:

The Made for iPhone (MFi) hearing aids listed in Apple Support's article are compatible with iPhone and iPad. (Those marked with an asterisk (*) are also compatible with Mac.): List of Made for iPhone hearing devices - Apple Support

Re: "I can be listening on my iPhone - loose the audio and then find that the Oticons have paired with my iPad without reason"

You may want to check with your hearing-specialist or the hearing-aid manufacturer (Eg: contact "support" on their website) for a possible hearing-aid firmware update, or, if you use an app, check for an app update.

______

Else: Use Made for iPhone hearing devices - Apple Support

says (amongst many other things):

"Hearing device disconnects unexpectedly

  • When using your hearing device, make sure that your paired Apple device remains nearby.
  • If your hearing device is paired with more than one Apple device, it might switch (hand off) to the other Apple device when it detects an incoming call on that device, or when you start playing audio on the other device. You can control this by changing the Audio Handoff setting in Hearing Devices settings on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Check the battery level of your hearing device. You might need to replace or recharge the batteries.
  • Check for wireless interference."

I have an older iPhone that is completely updated, and my Oticon hearing aids have all sorts of connecting problems too. Many times each day, I have to reconnect one or more hearing aids. I called Oticon and they blamed it on Bluetooth. Honestly, I wish I kept my old pair longer. I never had an issue with my 6-yr-old Oticons. There are100s of connection complaints online for all ages of iPhones and Oticon Real1.

I have an older IPhone and my brand new Oticons connect intermittently. Almost every day I have to re-pair my Oticons with my Bluetooth. It's very aggravating to spend $4000 and have this happen. I actually sent my current Real 1 hearing aids back to the company after two weeks. When I got them back weeks later, connecting to Bluetooth is actually worse. I have an older set of Oticon hearing aids. This never happened. Either Apple or Oticon hasn't worked out the pairing situation with Bluetooth. I'm going to start writing Oticon. It's not my audiologist's problem anymore.

I have the latest set of hearing aids the VA will provide, updated in 2023 and latest firmware. There remain big connection issues rendering the function useless unless I wear a shirt with a breast pocket and keep the phone there. I verified the aids fail to connect at arms length and about a 45 degree angle down from my head. The old bluetooth earphones from 2019 (Mpow Flame) work great so it is likely not the phone.

I have had my oticon engage hearing aids for a couple of years, and have had no problems connecting to any of my Apple devices, which include an I phone 12, and 2 up-to-date iPads..

On Friday of last week, proceeds stopped connecting to all my devices, nothing has changed. I had heard no updates from Apple I was using the “on” app.

I have tried restarting my phone switching off Wi-Fi and they will still not stay connected.

They momentarily connect, and then I get the power down tone on the AIDS, which still function as hearing aids, that are not connected to my devices. I have tried the new app “companion“ momentarily this did seem to work, but now I still get the same symptoms, momentarily connecting and then dropping the connection.

I am puzzled in the extreme, both aids developed this symptom at the same time, none of the Apple devices have had updates, what an earth has happened to suddenly cause this problem?

My main enjoyment in life is listening to my Apple devices via aids, headphones are no good as they make no provision for my hearing deficiencies.

Please please is there anyone out there who can help, I am 80 years old so time is precious! Cheers Peter

many thanks for your response, my current software update is 6.1, I have checked with Oticon and they tell me that is the latest update, I’ve also spoken at length with them and done everything they suggested which included,

1 restart device

2 switch off Wi-Fi

3 reinstall app

4 remove Bluetooth profile “forget this device“

5 for other computering devices.

In addition, I have gone through the whole house, switching off any other Bluetooth devices, such as Alexa and any other devices that use Bluetooth, such as speakers et cetera.

Sometimes it does connect, and it will then be okay for the whole day, and then it will switch off again and I will not be able to get it to reconnect.

It connects momentarily, and then I get the power down sound, and it disappears from the screen of the device such as I phone et cetera. I can then go through the whole procedure numerous times and I get the same result, then suddenly it will connect, I’ve tried raving about the house and it does seem better in some rooms and others which is the logical. I’ve also reset my router, not that I can really see any reason why this would be a cause.

I have terminal cancer and my main enjoyment to forget about the pain is watching YouTube and not being able to do so has significantly deteriorated my quality of life.

I’ve also been onto my Hearing Aid supplier (the NHS) and they are not able to help , I’ve also been on to the manufacturer as previously stated and I have done everything that they suggest.

any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated, this phenomena just came out of the blue last Friday afternoon, everything be working perfectly for a number of years before that, there have been no updates from Apple, which could have caused this problem.

HELP

I sympathise with your predicament, my aides had worked perfectly for years until last Friday, 14th of July 23, when everything stopped working with regard to Bluetooth connectivity, my aids still work but will not connect to any of my devices, I’m going to complete the feedback form to Apple, it’s so frustrating when it did work, and now it doesn’t and you have done absolutely nothing! Good luck,

I just got my hearing aids a little over a month ago. I am noticing that when I listen to music while at the gym or walking the same issue with the connection cutting out in first one ear and then the other depending on which pocket I put the phone in on my workout pants. If I hold the phone in front of my neck both ears stay connected. Can't do that while lifting weights! This needs fixing. I am interested to hear about the person getting a new set to see what happens.

I have an iPhone 6 and I have the same problem that you have with your iPhone 16. I sent my Oticon hearing aids back and there is no difference. I can hear fine with the hearing aids but I can't connect my phone with any reliability. I'm going to look into earbuds because I listen to podcasts and music every day. It's disappointing that Apple and Oticon can't work together.

You are exactly right about the older Oticon hearing aids. I had no issue with connectivity to my iPhone 6 with six year old Oticon hearing aids.

clarity is better with my new Oticons but the connectivity is horrible. It's too bad that Apple can't get together with Oticon to make their connectivity better.

writing Oticon. When I talked to several different people in the company, they pretended like they had never heard about this problem. There are hundreds of negative reviews about connectivity with any of the iPhones new or old.
