play symbol in circle
What does this mean at the top right hand menu bar? Is my mac recording sound and streaming it without my knowledge? How do I stop it?

This "Play" icon will only show up when you have the Apple Music app opened and playing a song.
To make it easier to access the play/pause while working in a different application, so you will not have to move from one application to another when you want to pause/play/skip your songs.
