Photos scanning people too slowly

To let Photos keep scanning for faces and other items keep Photos open and in the background. Don't sleep the Mac but just use the screensaver. Leave it on over night for a couple of days. Depending on the size of the library it can take a long time to complete the scan.

It not only scares for faces but for items, i.e. dogs, cars, chairs, tables, etc., and it scans each frame for every video. s

That is a strange thing to occur, especially after seeing no progress from following the recommendations per the message in your screenshot. We'd like to continue ruling out some other possible causes, along with learning more about what's happening:

1. If your Mac detected faces in the past, when did the issue start to occur?
2. If you use iCloud Photos, do you have the same issue with other devices that also use iCloud Photos?
3. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart. Check out the section ‘Restart your Mac' here: Shut down or restart your Mac
4. If you have a compatible Mac model, the latest version is macOS 13.3.1. You can verify this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen, then on ‘About This Mac’. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update macOS on Mac.
