macOS 13 Ventura BREAKS Panasonic TV connection via HDMI

macOS 13 Ventura BREAKS Panasonic TV connection via HDMI.

The "Apple - System Settings - Displays" shows the Built-in Display ONLY. The Panasonic Smart Viera TX-L47DT60E television (TV) is not shown, even after pressing the Option key and "Detect Displays". Nothing else is detected.

Is there a way to fix it, or is it a Ventura bug?

No problem with previous macOS versions, including Sierra, Big Sur or Monterey, in which such TV automatically showed in "Apple - System Preferences - Displays".

System: macOS 13.3 (22E252) Ventura on iMac 27-inch Retina 5K display 4.2 GHz Intel Core i7 7th-generation; model identifier iMac18,3 mid 2017) 40 GB RAM.

This post should be at the end of this thread and not here, but this forum automatically places it on page 4. So, I have deleted its contents. And after doing it it was placed on page 7. The original message was as follows (posted on page 7 but shows on page 4):

WOW, WOW, WOW!!!

I just cannot believe it. Amazing, fantastic, terrific!!!

Apple FIXED it with macOS 13.6.5 (22G621) Ventura. Note that you may need to switch from

01-Apple - Systen Settings - Displays - Use as - Extemded display (shows Panasonic-TV with black content) does NOT show Mac content on TV

to

02-Apple - Systen Settings - Displays - Use as - Mirror for Built-in Display (shows Panasonic-TV with Mac desktop picture content) displays Mac content on TV and then also option 01 above works

While playing Mac movie on TV it shows as

03-Apple - Systen Settings - Displays - Use as - Main display (shows Panasonic-TV with black content) while playing Mac movie on TV

Many thanks, Apple. When it seemed impossible, Apple listened and fixed it. Better later than never. YOU MADE MY DAY!!!

I have the same issue. Our 2019 intel iMac connected fine to our Panasonic Viera TV until the upgrade to Ventura. Now when plugging in HDMI the TV does not respond with no sign that it is detected on the iMac despite trying all the usual tricks recommended on-line for HDMI connection problems.

We have a partition on the same iMac still running OS X Mojave for 32-bit programmes, and when I boot using that partition the display will show up on the TV without any problems. Unfortunately Mojave does not have Apple TV so we cannot view movies playing on the iMac across on the TV any more.

I am hoping that an update to Ventura will fix the problem but no luck with the first updates. I have tried changing many of the video settings on the TV without getting any positive results either.

I would appreciate any further suggestions - otherwise will just wait and hope!

I have since reported the issue directly to Panasonic, and then spent a long while yesterday on the chat and phone to Apple using Applecare which we still have active. I was able to demonstrate on video the TV mirroring perfectly on our Mojave partition and on another Mac running on Monterey and then not working at all with the same cable and connection on Ventura. None of the suggested fixes solved the problem as expected given what many have tried already. I highlighted the Apple Community discussion and felt the technicians very much understood the problem. There was an indication that Apple would discuss with Panasonic so here's hoping.

Cheers.

UPDATE. This is amazing. The bug is between Apple macOS 13 Ventura (no problem with previous macOS versions) AND Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter. No problem if the Mac has HDMI port like Mac mini connected with HDMI cable WITHOUT adapter. The problema rises on Intel Macs (no problem with Apple silicon ones) without HDMI port like iMac. Please, please, please, fix it. Thanks.

The issue remains with macOS 13.6 (22G120) Ventura, which will probably be the last Ventura update (besides the security ones for the next two years).

And some Intel Macs cannot be upgraded beyond Ventura. Will we be left in the cold? Apple, please, fix this bug that you generated with Ventura (no problem before) on Intel Macs (no problem with Apple silicon ones) on Macs with Thunderbolt ports but no HDMI port when connecting to Panasonic television (no problem with other manufacturers) connected via HDMI with "Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter”. BTW, the TV has firmware updated. The problem is not in Panasonic; it is in Ventura. Search Google for "Panasonic" "Ventura" "HDMI" to find multiple sites reporting the problem.

Is Apple listening?

The issue remains on macOS 13.6.3 (22G436) Ventura. Apple jumped to such update from the previous 13.6.1 (22G313), at least on Intel Macs.

Apple, please fix this serious problem on Intel Macs (no problem on Apple silicon ones) that arose with Ventura (no problem before) when connecting Macs to Panasonic televisions (which have HDMI ports), using the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter on Macs without HDMI port.

The problem also arose in the initial versions of macOS 14 Sonoma (the ones before the final release and which I cannot name here because then the robot removes the message thinking that it is subject of a developer forum, but it is not; hint: second letter of Greek alphabet).

Apple noticed such issue and fixed it but only in Sonoma; not in Ventura. So, Apple knows about this serious bug and could fix it in Ventura as well, as done in Sonoma. A few Ventura updates remain, so there is time to fix it, but not much. Thanks!

Is your TV Panasonic? The problem is with such devices on Ventura.

sorry, no. my TV is a Samsung. the SMC and NVRAM resets can usually resolve issues with external displays for Intel Macs, which is why I suggested it. since it didn't work in your case, and also happens for others on similar TVs, it could be an issue on that end or with the Mac itself.

you may want to send apple some feedback. Feedback - macOS - Apple

It is important to note that the problem of Macs not detecting Panasonic televisions arose with macOS 13 Ventura (no problem before) when using Intel Macs (no problem with Apple silicon ones).

For instance, when using iMac connected to TV via HDMI using Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter, since such Mac does not have HDMI port:

Finally, I do not know if the problem arises with Intel Macs with HDMI port (not using the adapter) like the Mac mini. Someone could test with such Macs? Thanks.

The issue persists with macOS 13.6.1 (22G313) Ventura on Intel Macs without HDMI port.

The issue remained in macOS 14 Sonoma before FINAL (I cannot say the exact word here because then the robot deletes this message), but as reported above, Apple fixed it in macOS 14 Sonoma FINAL, but not in Ventura. And some Macs cannot be upgraded beyond Ventura.

So, Apple generated the issue in Ventura (no problem before) and now does not fix it. Will Apple fix this? Is Apple listening?

Thanks. That is connecting the HDMI port of the Mac mini to the HDMI port of the Panasonic TV using a HDMI cable.

But the iMac does not have HDMI port. So, I used the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter

USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter - Apple

to connect the Thunderbolt 3 port of the iMac to the HDMI cable to the Panasonic TV. In such a case, the Mac does not see the TV when using Ventura. No problem with previous macOS versions. Therefore, the problem is in Ventura.

This is true macOS Ventura Bug. Apple, please, fix it in Ventura, since some Macs cannot be further upgraded to newer macOS versions.
