macOS 13 Ventura BREAKS Panasonic TV connection via HDMI

macOS 13 Ventura BREAKS Panasonic TV connection via HDMI.

The "Apple - System Settings - Displays" shows the Built-in Display ONLY. The Panasonic Smart Viera TX-L47DT60E television (TV) is not shown, even after pressing the Option key and "Detect Displays". Nothing else is detected.

Is there a way to fix it, or is it a Ventura bug?

No problem with previous macOS versions, including Sierra, Big Sur or Monterey, in which such TV automatically showed in "Apple - System Preferences - Displays".

System: macOS 13.3 (22E252) Ventura on iMac 27-inch Retina 5K display 4.2 GHz Intel Core i7 7th-generation; model identifier iMac18,3 mid 2017) 40 GB RAM.

TO ADMINS: please, place the post below at the end of this thread (page 7) because it contains the SOLUTION. But each time that I post there on page 7, it shows on page 4. Thanks.

This post should be at the end of this thread and not here, but this forum automatically places it on page 4. So, I have deleted its contents. And after doing it it was placed on page 7. The original message was as follows (posted on page 7 but shows on page 4):

WOW, WOW, WOW!!!

I just cannot believe it. Amazing, fantastic, terrific!!!

Apple FIXED it with macOS 13.6.5 (22G621) Ventura. Note that you may need to switch from

01-Apple - Systen Settings - Displays - Use as - Extemded display (shows Panasonic-TV with black content) does NOT show Mac content on TV

to

02-Apple - Systen Settings - Displays - Use as - Mirror for Built-in Display (shows Panasonic-TV with Mac desktop picture content) displays Mac content on TV and then also option 01 above works

While playing Mac movie on TV it shows as

03-Apple - Systen Settings - Displays - Use as - Main display (shows Panasonic-TV with black content) while playing Mac movie on TV

Many thanks, Apple. When it seemed impossible, Apple listened and fixed it. Better later than never. YOU MADE MY DAY!!!

Hello,

same issue here with a MBP 2020 i4 running Ventura. I’ve run out of options since nothing works. (Safe mode, display detection, other adapters, NVRAM PRAM reset, other HDMI cables, other HDMI ports on TV, TV reset)

I sent a full feedback onto apple dedicated website as previously suggested.

Though when I looked up “Panasonic”, the search query returned no results.

Every involved end customers in the thread should indeed escalate it back to Apple.

I will try to obtain technical data with Panasonic Customer Care such as DisplayPort supported versions and supported resolutions. DP-Alt compatibility and so on? Could we start a class action ?

Request to Panasonic (Belgium) sent!

#Incident: ****

”Dear,

for about several months, many users of a Panasonic such as me, of a TV and Mac under Ventura 13.5 computers are experiencing no image displayed at all.

My TV runs the latest update. Ver.3.1222

Apple seems on the other hand reluctant to find a workaround to Ventura users. Therefore could you please ask Panasonic headquarters for the technical specifications of my TV regarding these very important points:

-Supported DisplayPort versions;

-Supported refresh rates and screen resolutions;

-Support of DisplayPort Alt modus;

-Any other relevant information regarding the communication happening through HDMI between a computer and this TV.

Best regards, and thank you for your cooperation,

Nicolas L.”

It is important to note that the problem of Macs not detecting Panasonic televisions arose with macOS 13 Ventura (no problem before), when using Intel Macs (no problem with Apple silicon ones).

For instance, when using iMac connected to TV via HDMI using Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter, since such Mac does not have HDMI port:

Finally, I do not know if the problem arises with Intel Macs with HDMI port (not using the adapter), like the Mac mini. Could someone please test with such Macs and report here? Thanks.

That's not what I was talking about. There are various versions of HDMI. Some TVs have the ability through the onscreen menu system to change the HDMI version used.

No such option in Panasonic. As said, no problem before. It arose with Ventura and only for Intel Macs (no problem with Apple silicon ones). It is a Ventura bug.

Why is my post deleted each time that I post it? Please, do not delete it. Thanks!

UPDATE:

The issue remains with macOS 13.6.4 (22G513) Ventura on Mac (Intel) with Panasonic TV. Apple, please fix it. No problem before Ventura and Sonoma also fixed it, but some Macs cannot be upgraded beyond Ventura. Please, please, please!!! Thanks!

Thanks for the information. Which configuration(s) did you test?

Please indicate television name and model, macOS version and build, Mac model (Intel or Apple silicon; model Identifier and release date). When using Thunderbolt port? When using HDMI port? Using adapter? Which one? Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter (link above)?

All such information is important to determine when the bug arises. Thanks again!

Since this is a Ventura bug, it is important to send feedback to Apple:

Thanks. Sure, but it is also a great idea to report to Panasonic (if possible, even to the headquarters in Japan), so that they know about this frustrating problem and report to Apple. If Panasonic does it, Apple will probably fix it.

There is not much time now, since probably a final macOS 13 Ventura update will be released in July to September or so, and some Macs cannot be upgraded beyond Ventura. It is now or never. The more reports that Apple receives, the better chance for them to fix it.

i can pretty much guarantee this won’t be fixed. There’s no way they will dedicate engineers into this intel related issue. I basically have a huge Panasonic monitor mounted above my Mac that I’ve not been able to use for the best part of a year. I’ve been following this bug for such a long time that now that Ive realised it’s just never gonna be fixed.

"The problem was generated with Ventura".

That being the case, the problem is Panasonic has not made their product compatible with Ventura. It's their responsibility to do that. Ventura apparently revealed a existing deficiency in Panasonic, but retro compatibility solutions may be impossible.

Unfortunately, a fix by Panasonic may not be coming. I use to get periodic firmware updates for our Samsung TV but it's age has stopped that. It remains to be seen if Panasonic can do that or if they will
