For some reason all of a sudden none of Apple devices will sync.. It's acting like my MacBook pro is trying to backup itself.. There ia ample room on my mac. The devices will do the backup, just won't sync... Any ideas on this would be grateful.. Thanks in advance

In order to isolate this behavior we recommend changing the content that is selected to sync with your devices. You can manage content expected to sync here: Use the Finder to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with your Mac - Apple Support
Specifically, step 4 covers this.
4. On the right side of the window, use the row of buttons below the name of your device to select the type of content to sync, such as Music or Photos. Then select the Sync checkbox for that content. In the example pictured, “Sync music onto John's iPhone” turns on music syncing. After you turn on syncing, more syncing options become available.
