An increasing number of web site use a two-page format for logons -- that is, you fill out your user name then are forced onto a second page to enter your password.
Using iPadOS, this often defeats the autofill even though the user name and password are in my keychain (and also on 1Password). The second page comes up with a blank for your password, but you are not presented with the option to auto fill it.
Can anything be done about this?
iPad Pro (5th generation)
The two-page authentication system (where the username and associated password must be entered on successive webpages) requires you to use autofill twice - once for username - and once for the password. This is a feature of the website design.
Autofill can only automatically fill both username and password fields, as a single action, if both fields appear on the same (single) page. There is no workaround beyond using autofill twice.
As for why some websites choose to split authentication elements across web-pages, only the website designer will know.

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are unable to automatically fill in passwords in Safari on your iPad if the account and password are on 2 different pages. Just to be curious, on the password page, do you see a "the Password AutoFill button" like this one:
If you do, you should be able to tap that and have the option to automatically fill the password or at least pull up the accounts that are saved to find the one you need. Here are some Apple resources that has more info:

In testing on our devices here, we were not able to replicate this issue when websites direct you to a second page to enter a password after entering the username on the first page. Is iPadOS up to date on your device? If not, we would recommend backing up your device and updating when you are able to:

The system gives me this or a similar choice on the first page -- when the site asks for the user name -- which it then duly fills in. But then after you have entered the user name the web site proceeds to the second page, when it presents a blank for your password. IPADOS Safari does not propose a password or give any way to access stored passwords. On has to go to Settings/Passwords and look it up.
What I figured. Make it a minor obsacle for the bots, and annoying to impossible for the humans.
