Custom email domain: Invites nor working

Hi

I've added a custom domain to my iCloudplus enabled AppleId

The domain is already running email today on a different solution.

I have added an AppleId outside of the family, and when I add the desired email address an

invite is emailed.

However I can't accept the invite, after clicking it I just end up on the iCloud.com frontpage, and the invite stays in state "pending"

What could possibly be wrong ?

After a month long conversation with Apple support I was ready to give up, did not manage to get past the first layer of support and have an actual technical engineer take a look at my support ticket.

Here is how I managed to fix things on my own.

I upgraded the iCloud account I wanted to invite to iCloud+

Accepted the invite

Downgraded the iCloud account from + to regular

Hey Henrik.Schack,

Does your friend live in a country or region that includes Apple One? Availability of Apple Media Services - Apple Support

If they are, we recommend deleting the custom domain email address and creating it again: Create and delete email addresses for a custom domain on iCloud.com - Apple Support

After it’s been created, wait for 5-10 minutes, then send the invitation again.

Please let us know the results when you're able.

All the best.

Hi Henrik.Schack,

It's not clear if your concern is that you're attempting to add a member to a Family Share group that is using an address created using your custom domain, or if you're attempting to follow the process described at Use Custom Email Domain with iCloud Mail of:

  • "If you share iCloud+ with your Family Sharing group, you can share your custom domain with your Family sharing group and allow them to create personalized addresses. In iOS 16 or later, you can also share your custom domain with people outside your Family and allow them to create personalized addresses.*
  • You can share your domain with up to five other people. If you add someone who’s not part of your Family Sharing group, they need to accept the invitation before they’re added to the domain."

If the later is true, more information is contained on the page Personalize iCloud Mail with a custom email domain and share with others.

On your device you can open the Settings app, tap on your name or avatar and then iCloud to access your iCloud settings. Here you'll locate the option for Custom Email Domain and choosing that should display an option to Manage to add users from your Family Share group to that domain.

Regards.

Sorry about being unclear.

I am trying to share an email address on a custom domain with an iCloud account outside of my family members.

I add the iCloud account.

I add the wanted email address to that account.

The invite email is delivered.

The person clicks the "confirm" link in the email, is taken to iCloud.com where he signs in with his iCloud.com account.

Then nothing happens, he is taken to the frontpage of iCloud.com

On my end, the invite stays in "pending" state.
