Wi-Fi Network join problems

I’m not quite sure about the context, here.

The Wi-Fi password is required, of courwe. It will get prompted here because the new Mac needs to establish network communications before the Mac can access iCloud Keychain to get at the shared passwords including the shared Wi-Fi credentials.

If the password is being requested each time the Mac is connecting, there may be something else happening here. Start by checking the firmware on the Wi-Fi router, and look for and apply any vendor updates.

If the network is using RADIUS authentication (so-called enterprise security), that’s another discussion.

If your new Mac has any add-on security app, or an add-on cleaner app, or an add-on first-few-hops VPN client app, remove that per vendor instructions, restart, and test again.

The Apple Wi-Fi security recommendations won’t block network access, and should not prompt for Wi-Fi network password. Those will show a diagnostic.

Older Macs did have different security requirements when it comers to the internet. You can find the recommended settings under Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support which outlines the Wi-Fi network types that meet the security needs of the Mac.
