new Dropbox prevents exporting from Final Cut Pro

I unfortunately installed the new version of dropbox. For the first time, instead of being in the Favorite section, now Dropbox folders are stored in Library/Cloudstorage/Dropbox (apparently to Apple request).

For some reason that I can't figure out, now I can't export my FCP projects anymore. With the previous version, I used Dropbox back up function for a few folders only (not my entire HD) but nothing that was, as far as I know, linked to FCP.

I stop using that backup function anyways. Alas, no improvement.

I uninstalled FCP and put it back, it did not work any better.

Dropbox support is not helping me. It claims that there is no way to go back to the previous version of Dropbox the one that was functioning so well !

Any help appreciated…

Making a little progress here.

Now, I am not using Dropbox sync anymore

Then, I uninstalled and reinstalled both FCP and Compressor (because I suppose Compressor is needed to compress to create a video copy of my editing)

Strangely, I can compress and produce a video but only through a direct use of compressor File > Send to Compressor).

If I try to make the video from the “share” menu of FCP, the computer has a fatal error in the middle of the share operation…

This is weird. I had this kind of behavior with a plug in (Cinema Grade) that happens to be incompatible with my new version of FCP. Maybe this time, it is because of OS 13.3 or 13.3.1 as I read somewhere that there is a bug with the inspection of some plug in when FCP starts?

Very strange.

So, I can work with compressor for the times being.

Hi Luis,

I deleted FCP preferences. It didn't help the sharing function.

Then, I deleted all the render files and although, the share export still doesn't work, when it stopped working, this time, only FCP closed down, the problem didn't force my laptop to restar as before !

And I double checked : sending the file to compressor still works.

We have heard of problems with Audio Units, but this seems to be a different thing.

It is unexpected that Send to Compressor works, but sharing directly does not.

Did you delete FCP preferences once again? Did you try deleting all render files? Any change?

I know you said so, but make absolutely sure that none of the media used, the library, or the export location are connected to dropbox.

Tom, I don't think I have any Audio Units. I don't see anything in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components;

in ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components, I only have AppleAES3Audio.component, which I did not manually installed, as far as I can remember; the date on it seems to be consistent with the launch of Ventura.

If the computer is shutting down during any process, it's a kernel problem and very likely a hardware issue. You really need to get the system checked by an Apple store if you can, and reproduce the problem for them.

But why does it work when I send it to compressor? And, as I explained earlier, I had the same sort of trouble with a faulty video plug-in some time ago. I just don't know if there is a way to test the plug ins order to identify if one is faulty?

That's what I think, indeed. But now Dropbox is moving stuff around since I stoped using the Dropbox sync function. I have to wait that it finishes moving the files…

A quick question Luis. Do you have Audio Units content? Are they stored in the system Library or the user Library, or can they be in either place? Thanks very much.

Yes, I do have it. It's in the system Library/Audio. Maybe with Ventura.

It's not in Monterey.

No application can close the system, ever. It may happen with some applications, but it is not the application that’s doing it. The system has a problem, and it’s most likely a hardware problem.
